Birdseed Bells & Peanut Butter Cones

You can make a simple nutritious treat by dabbing peanut butter on a pinecone, then sprinkling it with sunflower seeds and/or birdseed.  Hang or place close to the birdhouse.

Birdseed bells are easy using to make in your microwave!  Simply mix birdseed with a bit of honey or syrup, then pack into a microwave-proof container.  You can line the container with wax paper for easy removal.  Microwave on high for about 2 minutes, or on medium for about 3.  Remove and allow the block to cool completely before removing.  Other goodies such as sunflower seeds can also be added to the seed.  Be sure and watch your microwave as cooking times vary depending on your make and model.

Crows are especially fond of cornbread that has been ‘seasoned’ with a bit of birdseed and honey.  A good recipe is:

1 cup of flour

1 cup of cornmeal

1 cup of milk

½ cup of honey

1 cup of birdseed

1 teaspoon of baking powder

½ cup of oil

1 teaspoon of salt

Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven until done, about 30 minutes.  Smear top with more honey if desired.
