Fall Foliage

There is a small window of opportunity when it comes to viewing fall foliage, so begin to make plans in mid-summer to catch the magic.  No matter where you live, you’re sure to glimpse a palate of colors.

Leaf Collection

Collect a variety of leaves and learn about the trees they fell from.  

Next, glue your leaf collection onto heavy construction paper and dust with hairspray for luster.

Your child might enjoy labeling each leaf on the paper, below the mounted leaf.

Yard Objects for Fall

Stuff a black bag with fallen leaves, then decorate it like a giant turkey or pumpkin for the holidays – or make a scarecrow from your efforts.  Use a worn outfit or one that your child has outgrown, including gloves, socks, a handkerchief, sunshades, and a hat.  They will laugh as see their own shape filling in with the leaves.

A paper plate glued onto a smaller bag that has been filled with leaves makes a great base for a face.  Attach to a broomstick and prop your scarecrow up in your yard along a fence, the side of the house, or to a pole.
