Nut Hunt The types of nuts you can find will be dependent upon the area where you reside. The south is famous for pecans. Peanuts are also very interesting nuts to introduce to children because they grow underground. Try driving down a desolate country road to spy nut trees. If this is not feasible for your area, pick up a variety of nuts from the market and have a taste-a-thon to see which nuts your child likes best. If chestnuts are in season, try roasting some over an open fire. Squirrel Gone Nuts Nuts are also great to use in craft projects. One idea is to take an ‘empty’ picture frame and create a squirrel with the nuts by gluing them ‘onto’ the empty frame. If the backing is missing, try using a burlap-covered piece of wood or heavy cardboard that is cut to the size of your picture frame. Next, tack a bit of chicken wire onto the front of the frame so that it appears that the squirrel is behind the wire. This craft makes an ideal picture for your child’s room or the den. As a note, any nut of your choice can be used although pecans and peanuts work extremely well. Kid's Activity Planner Index of Activities
