There’s More Than One Type of Bean

Buy several different types of beans at the market, then show your child how they differ in appearance and in taste.  Top off the lesson by making a pot of mixed bean soup together.

Growing a Beanstalk

Toss a bean into a cup of dirt, or water and watch the magic grow.  Or, sprout a potato plant.

Of course, you’ll want to include the wonderful ‘Jack and the Magical Beanstalk’ tale as part of your project.

Plant a Tree

Of course, Arbor Day would be THE perfect day for planting.   Incorporate other learning activities into the event such as counting tree rings to determine the life of a tree.  (Each ring represents one year.)

It is interesting to note that tree rings are not evenly spaced.  A tree may have thrived one year, then lagged in growth the next.
