X.  ACTIVITIES FOR TEENS

Visit Car Lots

Your teen will be behind the wheel soon, and if they have car fever, indulge in their dream a bit by taking in a few of the local car lots, both new and used.  Don’t miss the expensive lots, either.  They can be fun, and will give your teen a front row seat, literally!

Shop, obtain prices, and get a general idea of payments for future use.  It will give your youngster to aim for.

Visit Model Homes, Mobile Homes, etc.

Older teens, especially girls, enjoy this activity.   Sometimes, they will actually visualize how they would decorate the home if it were their own.  Point out quality, and real value to your teen.  Put some numbers on paper to show them how they can one day make their dream come true.

Go a step further and explain the process of purchasing a home.

Bank Accounts

If you have a teen, especially one with a job, it’s time to begin a personal banking account if you haven’t already.   A savings account is a ‘must’ account, but you can build from there.  

Teens will like their own checking account, and there are so many cute checks to choose from!  An ATM card is also a wise move.

Having a bank account will teach your teen the value of saving, and how to balance their budget.

Taxes

Taxes bring up ‘unfuzzy’ feelings.  However, tax preparation is something that your child must face some day.  

Show them the benefits of knowing how to complete their own income tax forms, where the numbers go, and the in’s and out's of tax withholding.
