Star Gaze

Watch the sky on a regular basis and when you’ve got a clear sky, share the magic with your child.  Point out the stars, and their names.  Choose a star, and let your child name it.  

Read a book afterwards about a topic relating to the stars.

Sail to the Planets

Purchase Styrofoam balls at your local craft store, along with craft paint.  You’ll need different sizes (large for Jupiter, tiny for Pluto) and you’ll also need a Styrofoam ring to surround Saturn.

Creating the planets can be a really fun project that you’ll want to stretch out over several days, perhaps weeks.  

Use photos that you locate online, or in a library book to match the details of the planets.  When you are finished, hang the planets in their correct orbital scroll from your child’s ceiling with sturdy cord or string.

A ‘moon’ can be made to accompany the planets.  Scoop out ‘moon craters’ before painting a ghostly gray.
