Make an Erupting Volcano!
Though a mound of packed earth will suffice, it’s much
more fun when you make a volcano. Paper meche is about the best way to
go. Create a wire frame using a bit of chicken wire, then slowly glue
on newspaper. Next, paint the volcano.
Place a small container inside the top well of your
volcano and use the following to create an eruption of fun! Depending
upon the size of your container, these ingredients can be adjusted:
- 2 Tablespoons of baking soda + 1 spoonful of dish
washing soap + 3-4 squirts of red or yellow food coloring. Add ½
cup of vinegar to set off the eruption. Can be repeated as many times
as you’d like.
Make a Tin-Can Telephone
You’ll need 2 empty tin cans with one side cut out
smooth, and some long string.
Amazingly enough, this apparatus really works! Carefully
stick a hole in the end of each can. Attach the string. Talk into
the can, then when your child talks, hold the can to your ear to listen.
See how far the sound travels by increasing the distance
between you and your child. See what happens if you run your ‘telephone’
around a corner.
