Smart Budgeting Can Add Up To Big Bananas
Bakeries & Bread Stores
Visit your local thrift bread store or bakery. There are a lot of fresh items among the day-old ones, and they are a lot cheaper than if purchased at the grocery store.
Check out the day-old things too; some are as fresh or fresher than ones you'll find at the grocery store.
Dairy Store
Some dairy stores sell milk a lot cheaper than the grocery store. In addition, other dairy products such as butter, buttermilk, ice cream, cheese and eggs can be purchased for much less than at the grocery store.
Homemade
Many times you can make something for much less than you can purchase it pre-made. Examples are cakes. A cake from 'scratch' costs about ¼ or less as a bought cake. Even packaged cake mixes and icings are much cheaper.
Another thing you can do is to make several batches of a recipe your family likes, then freeze for later use. Buying items through multiple purchase can save you big bucks.
Clubs
Clubs such as Sam's offer products in bulk. These items are much cheaper than if purchased in smaller quantities at the grocery store.
Dining Out
Be a smart diner. If you are open to choice, try to pick a restaurant that is running a meal bargain. Some seafood places such as Red Lobster have "Lobster Feasts" and with chicken establishments, it's "chicken meal deals". Look for these special offers and promotions to save money. You may want fish today but if it's $25 per plate and the fancy steak house is running a steak dinner for $12.99 – go for the beef to save money!
You can also use coupons when dining out. Most business establishments have Internet sites. Visit these before heading out and you may hit 'pay dirt'. Also, check your Sunday paper for restaurant dining coupons. Many times a restaurant will offer a 'buy and get one free' meal bargain.
These are just a few suggestions to get you started. Remember, start tucking away those savings for a special rainy day!
