"Phillip," he corrected, then commented, "It may be a good idea for me to keep an eye on you anyway. You took one nasty fall. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few bruises pop up by morning."
Supper was well-welcomed, Phillip's stew rich and delicious.
Heather silently noted that although she had just met him, she already knew quite a lot about him. He had a kind, generous nature and a great bedside manner. He kept a neat-as-a-pen house, and he was an excellent cook.
And she supposed that he knew quite a lot about her, too. She was an idiot who had climbed a crooked ladder to a slick roof, then had fallen like a clumsy bird leaving the nest. And she had looked quite ridiculous with a face-full of soot!
Phillip was also comfortable to talk to, as if she had known him for a long while rather than just met him.
Grandfather had retired to one of the guest bedrooms when Phillip had suggested that they share a cup of hot chocolate by the fireplace in the den.
