"Yes. Dr. Phillip Jordon," he went on to casually introduce and she tensed as he dabbed a wet cotton ball over her chin that was heavily scented with alcohol.
He appeared to be studying her, perhaps checking her for injury Heather assumed. Then she tensed further still as he broke out laughing.
"Sorry, but you look rather humorous," Phillip managed, his laugh just in check.
She quirked her brows and he laughed again, then collected a mirror and held it up for her inspection.
Heather felt humiliated as every inch of her face was covered in soot - all but the spot that the good doctor had erased.
"Tell you what..... Why don't you clean up in the bath, then meet Jack and me in the den?" Then, "Best make good use of my robe, too. It's hanging on the back of the bathroom door."
Heather nodded, then murmured, "Thank you."
The wet clothing contributed to her inability to retain warmth and at this point, she knew that she owed a debt of gratitude to Dr. Jordon.
