"Heather, I'd like you and Jack to stay here until the storm blows through. He explained that you don't have enough gas to make it to town, so we can remedy that - once the storm exits."

"Oh - but we couldn't possibly intrude -"

"I can only imagine how cold it is in Jack's house," Phillip tried to defuse. "It will only be for a day or two. There's more snow projected for tonight, then we can probably make it to town tomorrow - or the following day at worst. Maybe secure a chimney sweeper while we are there?"

She hesitated, but saw the logic in his offer.

"About the....er....accident," she began, not wanting him to think that she was an idiot.

"Jack said that he tried his best to keep you from going up there but you just wouldn't listen to reason-"

"What! He-he didn't dare!"
