PLANNER, WEDDING APPAREL & THE WEDDING GOWN
A thrift store is an excellent
place to begin looking for that perfect gown. You may be fortunate enough to find a gown that’s
been recently donated by an up-scale store.
Some of the gowns have less wear than ones
in specialty shops because they may have actually been worn for less time.
Face it, ‘trying on
to see if it fits’ puts wear and tear on the garment. Expect to pay from $6.95 on up plus tax – and
yes, they ARE cheap! One of the best deals I happened upon in a thrift store was a brand
new Gunny Sax ivory lace dress with a price tag of $64.95. The thrift store’s price after tax:
$6.30. And many times, they will have attendant's gowns in various sizes that have been donated -
that may even be new!
Your family is another excellent
source to obtain that special wedding gown. Women are usually flattered when you ask if
you can wear their gown for your special day. If you opt for this suggestion, remember that
you’ll have to take special care on your special day not to soil the treasured garment so it
may not be worth the added stress.
Rental places can provide
you with everything but the kitchen sink when it comes to wedding apparel. However, prices
tend to be expensive and a bit overpriced. Most of the time you can purchase the item new rather
than renting.
Other great spots are estate,
yard, and garage sales, flea markets and your friends. Check out the Internet auction houses
as well. You never know what may pop up!
