Like a Man - Chinese Cookery
Dust off your wok for this nifty main course!
Woks went through an ultra popular phase in the 1970's. They were as popular back then as computers are today - and if you didn't own one, then you were considered behind the times. The official term was, 'Winnie'.
Ouch. Official terms can sure hurt a body. Brand new words that define the slower individuals of our species have certainly revolved: nerd, wuss, bonehead - but back then, it was 'Winnie'.
Nonetheless, a wok makes a wonderful iron drum of a meal with minimal fuss. Start out by spraying your wok with some non-stick spray. Allow it to heat the spray until it forms tiny bubbles. However, you don't want it to smoke.
When it reaches this stage, you are ready to add your ingredients. Start out by experimenting with Wok Like A Man, a tasty meal that goes well with fortune cookies and green tea.
Recipe for Wok Like A Man
Ingredients
An assortment of Oriental veggies - fresh or frozen. Some great choices include water chestnuts, bean sprouts, asparagus tips, julienne carrots, jimaca, onions, garlic, baby corn, lima beans, and cabbage - either red or green.
1/2 pound of hulled, deveined fresh shrimp
Your favorite bottled Oriental sauce. Sweet & sour works very well with this recipe.
Salt, pepper, dash of curry.
Begin by cooking the shrimp. Keep a close eye on the wok and when the shrimp reaches a beautiful shade of pink, remove from wok. Next, add the veggies and cook until done, but crisp and tender. Take care not to overcook. Add the salt, pepper and the dash of curry, if desired. Return shrimp to wok and add your favorite sauce.
Serve in tiny boxes, if desired, with chopsticks and fortune cookies. This is also a very fun meal to enjoy on either a large floor mat, or a rug.
This dish is not only fun to make, it's very health smart.
