Chameleon, A Full, A Full Length Romance E-Book Copyrighted by Sky At Dawn Publishing Chapter One - Page 2 Her sister’s voice was heavily laced with wisps of the English accent that she had perfected over the years. As a child Paige had been melodramatic, very easily enticed and fascinated by anything foreign. Cie supposed that was the reason that Hollace had so effortlessly swept Paige off her feet. Paige continued, mildly scolding, “And how naughty of you to wait so long to visit!” Cie smiled at her sister as she brought the cup of hot tea up to meet firm pink lips, finding that she had missed her greatly over the years. There had been visits, though sparse, with Hollace, Paige and Cookie always commuting to the States. Until now, contemplating a vacation had been pointless with her position at the New York Studio.
But now that she had ventured into her own business she was responsible only to herself. England seemed the perfect Lady-in-Waiting, opportune for enlarging her photographic portfolio – which was already quite impressive. Her work had been part of numerous publications and she was currently working on a book entitled Castles, Pubs & Village Inns – the Renowned Charm of England. Since this was to be a working vacation, she had brought along the most important bulk of her equipment, not wanting to be encumbered during her stay at Melrose Castle. It was her first trip abroad and if she had known that England was so magnificent, she would have made the trip years ago. Paige tended to embellish, but in her description of England and her own Melrose Castle, she had been quite apt. The castle was massive, crafted of stone that with time had become interwoven with vines and branches, mirroring the olden era of folklore. Cie could easily daydream about the days of dungeons and dragons, motes and giants, and kings and queens. The huge structure was hemmed with turrets rising a good two hundred feet into the jet-blue sky. Each window was crafted of stained glass, most containing ordinate window boxes tucked full of fragrant, vividly-colored flowers – the real ones, not the plastic variety that seemed to be prominently favored in the city, back in the States. Several gardens were scattered about the grounds and a beautiful blue pond rested in the distance. Spear thistles were arrowed throughout the area, the pink beaded heads attracting colorful swarms of butterflies. An elongated Paladin bridge spanned the small blue circle of water, and Cie supposed that she could sit here all day and be content to view this spectacular presentation of nature. Book’s wife groomed the gardens with the greatest of care. Cie had been privileged to see three of the seven plaited around the castle grounds. The design and formalities were different in each garden. The Medieval garden had been among the smallest and contained a massive dragon fountain with water shooting from both nostrils; his face was not kind looking and reminded her of a disagreeable client whom had been almost impossible to satisfy. The garden also contained several vine arbors and herbers, which were the turfed sitting areas.
